Description

Painted Pinups is a collection of reference photographs for tattooists and artists. Made up of 466 high resolution images, shot with tattoo-ability in mind, it includes 17 models with their faces painted in tattoo-related styles; dia de los muertos, clown, witch, and more. The images are shot from a variety of angles and lightings to lend themselves to a wide range of compositional possibilities. Having the images in a digital format allows for easily working with them in the software of the artist’s choice. This project has been 2 1/2 years in the making and hundreds of hours of work.

One ot the most common themes in tattoo, the
visage of a beautiful woman is timeless across tattoo
styles. Obviously a short online search will produce
a wide variety of such images. A search for a woman
with her face painted as “dia de los muertos’ or a
‘clown’ turns up a pile of results, but those photos
are generally someone’s glamour shots, lit and
cropped in a way that does not lend to a good tattoo
reference.

The images herein are taken by a tattoo artist, with
tattoo-ability in mind. The face paint, angles, and
lighting are all meant to serve a wide variety of
compositional possibilities. Having the images in a
digital format allows for easily working with them
in the software of the artist’s choice. I am most satistied
with the final collection of images and I hope they
serve vou well for years to come.
